Canon-McMillan was founded on September 15, 1954 in a merger between the Canonsburg, Cecil Township, and North Strabane Township schools. Canon-McMillan was formally known as Canonsburg High school when the name was changed.


Cecil Township is a township in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is a suburb in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The population was 11,271 at the 2010 census. The township contains the Southpointe suburban business park; companies based there include Ansys, Consol Energy, Millcraft Industries and Mylan. As of the census of 2000, there were 9,756 people, 3,794 households, and 2,879 families residing in the township. The population density was 370.3 people per square mile (143.0/km²). There were 4,005 housing units at an average density of 152.0/sq mi (58.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.42% White, 1.58% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.53% of the population.

There were 3,794 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.0% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% were non-families. 20.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the township the population was spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.4 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $50,616, and the median income for a family was $54,562. Males had a median income of $42,232 versus $27,857 for females. The per capita income for the township was $22,340. About 4.4% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.3% of those under age 18 and 6.3% of those age 65 or over.


North Strabane Township is a township in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 13,408 at the 2010 census. The township is named after the town of Strabane in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. As of the census of 2000, there were 10,057 people, 3,975 households, and 2,897 families residing in the township. The population density was 368.4 people per square mile (142.2/km²). There were 4,156 housing units at an average density of 152.2/sq mi (58.8/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 96.45% White, 2.08% African American, 0.01% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.61% of the population.

There were 3,975 households out of which 29.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.4% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.1% were non-families. 24.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.92.

In the township the population was spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $50,754, and the median income for a family was $60,141. Males had a median income of $41,879 versus $28,291 for females. The per capita income for the township was $23,457. About 3.4% of families and 4.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.7% of those under age 18 and 4.1% of those age 65 or over.


As of the census of 2000, there were 8,607 people, 3,809 households, and 2,285 families residing in Canonsburg. The population density was 3,703.5 people per square mile (1,432.4/km²). There were 4,144 housing units at an average density of 1,783.1 per square mile (689.7/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 91.01% White, 6.53% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 1.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.72% of the population.

There were 3,809 households out of which 23.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.6% were married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.0% were non-families. 34.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.88.

In the borough the population was spread out with 20.3% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 87.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.8 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $31,184, and the median income for a family was $42,793. Males had a median income of $32,458 versus $22,733 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,469. About 5.8% of families and 8.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.5% of those under age 18 and 6.6% of those age 65 or over.
